Give Weak Rear Legs the Support They Need

When a dog struggles to stand, walk, climb steps, or get into a car, even short daily routines can become difficult. The Rear Leg Support Harness for Senior and Disabled Dogs helps you steady and partially support your dog’s hindquarters while their front legs remain free to move naturally.

Person using the rear leg support harness to assist a dog during an outdoor walk

Its wraparound design supports the hips and upper rear legs, while adjustable lifting straps let you assist from a comfortable standing position. Use it for short supported walks, toilet breaks, stairs, vehicle access, and supervised mobility practice.

Why It Works for Everyday Assistance

  • Targeted rear-body support: Wraparound hip and leg panels help distribute assistance across the hindquarters instead of concentrating pressure on one narrow strap.
  • Two comfortable ways to assist: Use the padded short handle for close control or attach the longer adjustable straps when you prefer to stand more upright.
  • Adjustable, secure fit: Hook-and-loop closures and adjustable webbing help you fit the harness around your dog’s waist and rear legs.
  • Breathable padded panels: Perforated material and soft inner surfaces are designed for more comfortable supervised use.
  • Flexible lower-leg support: Built-in flexible stays help the leg panels retain their shape without using bulky rigid splints.
  • Better visibility: Reflective strips add visibility during early-morning or evening outings.
  • Toilet-break friendly: The open underside allows most dogs to relieve themselves without removing the entire harness.

Helpful for Dogs With Limited Hind-Leg Mobility

This support harness may be useful for:

  • Senior dogs with reduced rear-leg strength or balance
  • Dogs that need help standing up or walking short distances
  • Dogs recovering from an injury or procedure, when approved by a veterinarian
  • Dogs affected by arthritis, hip conditions, or other mobility limitations
  • Three-legged dogs that need additional rear-body stability, when the fit is appropriate

Important: This is an assistance device, not a treatment or substitute for veterinary care. Ask your veterinarian before use following surgery, with a new injury, or when your dog shows pain.

How to Measure and Choose a Size

Measure your dog’s waist girth while they are standing naturally. Wrap a soft measuring tape around the body just in front of the hind legs. Use waist girth as the primary sizing measurement; weight is a secondary guide.

Size Waist Girth Recommended Weight
S 13.0–16.9 in (33–43 cm) 16.5–27.6 lb (7.5–12.5 kg)
M 15.7–20.9 in (40–53 cm) 27.6–44.1 lb (12.5–20 kg)
L 19.7–27.6 in (50–70 cm) 44.1–66.1 lb (20–30 kg)
XL 25.6–33.5 in (65–85 cm) 66.1–99.2 lb (30–45 kg)

How to Fit and Use the Harness

  1. Open the waist and leg fasteners before positioning the harness.
  2. Center the main support panel around the hips, with one lower panel around each rear leg.
  3. Fasten the closures securely, then adjust the straps so the harness is snug without restricting movement or circulation.
  4. Clip the lifting straps to the attachment rings and balance the left and right sides evenly.
  5. Lift only enough to reduce the load on the rear legs. Let your dog’s front legs guide the movement at a slow, controlled pace.

Before each use, check that you can fit approximately two fingers beneath the straps and that no edge rubs the groin, abdomen, or skin.

Safe-Use Guidelines

  • Use only under direct supervision.
  • Designed for assisted movement—not for suspending, carrying, or lifting your dog’s entire body off the ground.
  • Support the front of the body separately when helping a dog into a vehicle or over a high step.
  • Begin with short sessions and check the skin regularly for redness, rubbing, or pressure points.
  • Stop use if your dog shows pain, distress, breathing difficulty, or increased instability.

Care Instructions

Close all fasteners before washing. Hand wash or machine wash on a cold, gentle cycle with mild detergent, then air dry completely. Do not use the harness until every padded section is fully dry.

MOBILITY

Helps dogs with weak or injured hind legs walk with ease.

SUPPORT

Ideal for stair climbing, car rides, or daily walks.

COMFORT
